Troubleshooting

Common issues

Subtree can't connect to Figma

Make sure the Subtree Figma plugin is installed and running. Open your Figma file, then go to Plugins > Subtree to activate the connection. The status indicator in the Subtree app should turn green.

Claude isn't responding

Check that your AI provider is configured correctly in Settings. For Claude Code, ensure the CLI is installed and you're logged in (run 'claude' in your terminal). For the Anthropic API, verify your API key is valid.

"Model not found" error when using Chat

Your selected model may have been deprecated. Go to Settings and pick a different model from the dropdown. For Claude Code, use non-dated model aliases like 'claude-sonnet-4-6' instead of dated versions.

MCP tools aren't appearing

The MCP binary (subtree-mcp) must be running. Restart the Subtree app — it starts the MCP server automatically. If using Claude Code directly, check your MCP config at ~/.claude/claude_desktop_config.json.

Trial expired but I haven't purchased yet

Your 3-day trial gives full access to all tools. After it expires, purchase a Pro license (€49/year) from the Account tab to continue using Subtree.

How do I authenticate with a personal access token?

If OAuth isn't working for your setup, you can use a Figma personal access token instead. See our detailed guide on this page below, or visit the dedicated token setup guide.

Personal access tokens

Can't use the standard OAuth flow? Use a Figma personal access token to authenticate instead.
